Llmas News - August 1st, 2009

For those of us that look forward, on pins and needles, to the tomato harvest- there is sad news... No tomatoes shall be harvested in the Northeastern United States, thanks to late tomato blight imported into our area from the Southern US by big box stores such as Home Depot garden centers. Profuse rains, unusual for our area at this time of year, helped to spread the blight. This is a blight similar to the blight that caused the great potato famine.
As we come upon the time of Harvest, August 1st being known as the First Harvest, we look around at our local farms, connecting and conversing with the farmers, and feeling as a result, very deeply, the effects of Global Warming/climate change in our own region.
We pray, and recycle Love back to the Earth Mother, who has nursed and supported our lives here, never asking for a thing in return- only the most logical, which is to reciprocate the Care.
Along with the failure of the tomato crops, it also looks like we will have no corn as well- one of the three Blessed Foods to our Native Ancestors here on Turtle Island (North America).
Don't just think about it.
